A Database Of Every Piece I Wrote in 2022

Happy new year! I hope all of you had a safe and happy 2021, even amidst all the challenges the year brought to us, and I do hope 2022 will be an incredible year. I never do resolutions, but my sole WISH for the year is that the COVID-19 pandemic is brought to an end, and that world countries will do everything in their power to end vaccine inequity, as the threat of a new variant is not in highly vaccinated countries, but in poorly vaccinated ones, especially low-income ones without much access to vaccines.

This year, I decided to do something a bit different, as my Contently portfolio is getting quite dense (rest assured, I will continue to add my writing there as the pieces come along), but why not compile a log of every single piece I wrote here? This is done, mainly, for two reasons:

  1. Ease of flow. I could potentially do a “best-of” my writing list if I ever feel like it, but I don’t think my writing is *that* great?
  2. For editors: If I pitch to any editor-in-chief or publication, I could link this piece here as a “new” database [if you will] for each piece I wrote this year. I can link my Contently portfolio + this database which could make it easier if any editor would like to see a writing sample. This is a work-in-progress, of course, but I will try to update it (as with the Contently portfolio) to the best of my ability.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone that has read my writing last year. Lots of great (and some not-so-great) opportunities arose last year, as I was stuck in my home most of the year, and any feedback, whether good or bad, is always appreciated. I try to take in consideration every comment from any editor, or reader, to improve my writing as much as I can. I’m still a work-in-progress, so my writing has definitely evolved and will continue to evolve to, hopefully, better horizons. Without any further ado, here’s another year in film/TV writing!

  • The internal linking to any piece will be found on the film or TV series’ TITLE.*
  • This piece will be frequently edited. Check it regularly.

Don’t Look Up [HCMovieReviews]

Kicking off a new year of writing is my first review of 2022, on Adam McKay’s DON’T LOOK UP: a smug “satire” that thinks it’s smart because it’s “exposing” [that’s quite a strong word] our political ineptitudes at managing any type of public emergency. You don’t need a movie that repeats, ad nauseam, “politicians bad. scientists good.” to remind you of this lol.

Mother/Android Review | This Terminator Meets The Walking Dead Hybrid Sure Is Dull [Coastal House Media]

Mattson Tomlin’s MOTHER/ANDROID contains an impassioned performance from Chloë Grace Moretz, but the film itself is a predictable slog to get through.

Ontario To Shut Down Cinemas Amid Omicron Surge [Awards Radar]

After Québec shutting down on December 20th, it was inevitable that Canada’s media capital would do the same. Read me talking about the news on Awards Radar.

‘Morbius’ Delayed (Again!) Due to COVID-19 [Awards Radar]

Not to be a buzzkill or anything, but when you delay a movie SEVEN TIMES in the span of TWO YEARS, maybe it’s a sign to just put it out of its misery and release it on Digital already. Yeah, sure, Spider-Man: No Way Home made over a billion and all, but this movie is two years old. I mean, come on, it’s not like anybody cares about Morbius, right?!? right?!?!?

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Imaginary Rick Dalton Films’ Book is Complete; Wants to Novelize ‘True Romance’ [Awards Radar]

This is a fun bit of gossip Tarantino explained on a radio interview, and I recapped the most essential parts of it on Awards Radar for anyone interested. Heck, I’m interested in reading the book Tarantino’s talking about. Sounds fucking awesome.

‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Episode 2 Review: “The Tribes of Tatooine” [The DISInsider]

Episode two of THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT sees our titular character trip balls when he gets a Lizard shoved up his nose (to replace the Water of Life I guess), become the Lisan al Gaib to lead the Freme — I mean the Tusken Raiders to victory and help them control the Kessel spice [melange] routes of Tatooine.

…why the fuck am I watching DUNE?

Also…BLACK KRRSANTAN! (guess he’s our Sardaukar).

79th Annual Golden Globe Awards to Have No Press, Audience, or Celebrities [Awards Radar]

It’s no secret that things aren’t going well for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Last year, a piece written in the Los Angeles Times on the HFPA’s conduct and demographic makeup caused an uproar in not only the film criticism world but also the filmmaking world as a whole. As a result, NBC, the usual network in charge of televising the Golden Globes, decided not to televise their 79th ceremony, which may not even happen anymore.

New Trailer for ‘Pam & Tommy’ Sees Major Transformation with Lily James and Sebastian Stan [Awards Radar]

The new trailer for Hulu’s Pam & Tommy is finally here! Check it out on Awards Radar.

Sundance Film Festival Cancels In-Person Screenings Amid Omicron Surge [Awards Radar]

Are we reliving 2020 all over again? 2022 seems to be off to a pretty hectic start, with many movies already being delayed, award ceremonies postponed indefinitely, and now Film Festivals outright transformed. The Sundance Film Festival announced today that its plans for in-person screenings are now scrapped, and the festival would then move to purely virtual screenings.

Jonathan Nolan To Direct ‘Fallout’ TV Series Pilot [Full Circle Cinema]

🚨NEW BYLINE ALERT🚨

Yeah, my first piece for Full Circle Cinema as a Freelance News Writer. Quite exciting to see this come to fruition. Read it here.

Peter Bogdanovich; Multi-Talented Filmmaker, Writer, Actor, Dies at 82 [Awards Radar]

Bogdanovich was one of my favorite filmmakers. The Last Picture Show is a fucking masterpiece, but the most underrated thing he did in his entire career was starring in The Sopranos as Dr. Elliot Kupferberg. Dude knew how to act, direct, write, criticize, the whole nine yards. There’s never going to be another one like him.

2022 Golden Globes To Have No Livestream and Held as ‘Private Event’ [Awards Radar]

lol

Sidney Poitier, Groundbreaking Actor/Filmmaker, Dies at 94 [Awards Radar]

What a career. What an actor. History was made more than one with Sidney Poitier. Bogdanovich, who died on the same day as Poitier, directed him in To Sir, with Love II (1996), one of the most interesting films of both of their respective careers. Read my obituary of Sidney Poitier over at Awards Radar.

Being the Ricardos [CLAPPERltd]

I hated Aaron Sorkin’s BEING THE RICARDOS. An uneventful, unfocused, and poorly written “biopic” that never really knows what it wants to say on…anything regarding Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s tumultuous relationship. Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are pretty good, but this film has nothing to offer.

The Matrix Reloaded (Review): The Best ‘Matrix’ Movie Ever [Loud and Clear Reviews]

Yeah, is this my first hot take of the year? I dunno, but I fucking love The Matrix Reloaded. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever, ever seen, pushing the boundaries of action filmmaking in a way that the 1999 original ever dreamed of achieving.

First trailer for ‘Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock’ Brings The Classic Characters Back to Life [FilmSpeak]

The first trailer for Apple TV+’s hotly-anticipated Fraggle Rock reboot, titled ‘Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock’ has premiered, in preparation for the series’ January 21st release date, in which all episodes will be made available for consumers on Apple’s streaming service. This is the second Fraggle Rock series Apple has produced, with ‘Fraggle Rock: Rock On!’ being the first.

Cate Blanchett to Lead Pedro Almodóvar’s ‘A Manual for Cleaning Women’ [Awards Radar]

After releasing his first English-language film overall in The Human Voice, starring Tilda Swinton, in February of last year, acclaimed filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar is set to direct his first-ever English-language feature film with A Manual for Cleaning Women, an adaptation of Lucia Berlin‘s short story collection of the same name, telling 43 stories about different women demanding jobs.

National Society of Film Critics Award Winners Announced [Awards Radar]

The National Society of Film Critics announced their winners and runners-up for their award ceremony. Read my piece on Awards Radar to find out who won and who almost won.

First Trailer for ‘Bel-Air’ Sees a Dramatic Adaptation of the Popular Sitcom [Awards Radar]

The first trailer for Peacock’s Fresh Prince of Bel-Air dramatic adaptation simply titled Bel-Air has been released. The series, based on a short fan film made in 2019 by Morgan Cooper, imagines a darker, more dramatic version of the popular sitcom starring Will Smith, had been given a two season order by Peacock in September 2020 when Smith himself was attached as an executive producer.

The Best Scores and Soundtracks of 2021 [Awards Radar]

This was a collaborative article, in which many writers of Awards Radar wrote one (or more) blurbs on the best scores and soundtracks of 2021. I wrote one on Disney’s Encanto. Read it here.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Fails to Qualify for BAFTA Eligibility [Awards Radar]

Today, BAFTA revealed that the highest-grossing film of 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home, has not qualified for eligibility in their annual awards ceremony, even if Sony has been campaigning the film as a last-minute Awards contender over the past few weeks.
